Newsom: California’s worst governor ever

Newsom is both morally and intellectually bankrupt. Newson is so blinded by his party’s dogma that he can’t see cause and effect. California’s homeless population isn’t due to a housing shortage. Drug addiction accounts for the bulk of the homeless population and the remainder is mental illness issues and a loss of employment. Newsom won’t address the drug problem that is a blight to the citizens of his state.

California acquired more than 15,000 hotel rooms to shelter homeless people during the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Gavin Newsom said last month.

Newsom said then that a new agreement with the Motel 6 hotel chain would provide an additional 5,025 hotel rooms at 47 locations in 19 counties.

“Today marks an important milestone for our efforts to protect very vulnerable homeless individuals from COVID-19, and to protect our hospitals more broadly from surges that challenge our capacity and stress our system,” the governor said.

On 60 Minutes on Dec. 1, there was a report on homelessness that mirrored a lot of the same issues faced in San Diego County. It focused partly on an arguments among city leaders about whether the crisis is caused by an increase in mental illness and drug addiction, or high housing costs.

Q: Are mental illness and drug addiction more of a reason for homelessness than housing costs?

Bob Rauch, R.A. Rauch & Associates

YES: Tough love is the solution to defeat homelessness. We must enforce existing laws against street loitering, camping, littering, defecating, urination, illicit drug use and petty theft. Allow homeless to reside in a tent or camp on their own, provide port-a-potties and port-a-showers, mess halls, medical tents and on-site service providers. These should include dedicated teams of mental health professionals, drug rehabilitation specialists and vocational trainers — all paid for by the convention center expansion.

YES: Mental illness and drug/alcohol abuse are much more significant issues than have been recognized and responded to. I’ve been saying that for years. Certainly, housing costs are higher and availability is lower in San Diego and California than elsewhere nationally, but we’ve been ignoring behavioral health under-funding and inpatient under-capacity for far too long. If government would respond to these medical issues, we could really make a dent in homelessness.

Newsom is equally blind when it comes to the prevention of wildland fires. If the winds blow too hard, the power companies turn off the electrical power for fear of their powerlines falling and starting wildland fires. Thereby, citizens are thrown back into the dark ages often for a week at a time. I submitted a ten-year plan for the reduction of wildland fires to Newsom which addressed the powerline issue as well. My plan would employ thousands of low skill workers at a good wage. My plan is a beginning for which others may build upon.

Shortly after Newsom finishes, President Trump brings up countries that are in Europe that are forest countries. Newsom is at a loss for words when Trump points out that those countries don’t burn every year as his state does. Well, Newsom, you have eliminated nearly all fossil fuel powerplants from the state, and still, the state burns. China is using coal-burning powerplants to supply its needs. The United States could be at zero CO2 emission levels and China would still be making the weather hotter.

President Trump is right. Ice ages have come and went before there were people on the earth. All could be in agreement that climate change is real, then what? The problem still exists.

The third way Newsom has harmed the state is buying into the nonsense that is the New Green Deal. Newsom has also closed our nuclear powerplants. Natural gas powerplants are nearly as low impactful on the environment as nuclear powerplants. Newsom has opted to generate electricity by using windmills and solar panels. As a result, California is subject to rolling blackouts.
