Years ago, I was surprised to learn that France had fought and won more wars than any other country. Of course, France is not a loser in wartime because the French eat pigeon. How the French changed their attitudes toward warfare, eating their heroes, was a symptom of their disrespect for their warriors. The French Foreign Legion further illustrates my position. The contempt to send Frenchmen into harm’s way spawned the French Foreign Legion.
