Battleship

I now understand the concept of the Trump Class Battleships. The point of the railgun over a turret of three 16-inch guns is to eliminate the powder bags and the bulky explosive shells. In addition, having a gun turret means several decks of complex machinery to support the turret and load it. The shells weigh approximately 2,000 pounds. In contrast, the railgun has no major moving parts. The railgun gun projectiles are not bulky, nor do they have explosive charges. Explosive charges have a shelf life.

As for targets that are masked by terrain, the Battleships will have missiles to strike such targets. The high-power lasers and missiles will eliminate enemy troops on the landing shore for the Marines.

My only concern is the massive electrical power needs for these Battleships without nuclear power.
